2004 saturn Ion windshield wiper arm stabilizer bar?

Husband changed windshield blades on 2004 saturn Ion. The stabilizer arm broke where the aluminium crimps around the plastic on the pivoter (where the arm pivots) Arm now flops all over the place when turned on. First question can I get a windshield wiper arm puller for this car and if so where. and second question any hints or tips to fix this problem without spending $200 { what saturn has quoted us to buy new parts(transmission linkage) problem} would be greatly appreciated.

if you look at the petersons manual for that car-should just have to push in the tab at the stub and should come right off-did one yeasterday-go to your local auto salvage yard to find one...should be plenty of em out there

The %26quot;Best Answer%26quot; is incorrect. The Ion wiper arm fits onto a tapered shaft and is held on with a nut. If you can't gently wiggle the wiper arm off the post, you need to use a puller to prevent damage. I used a small puller that was designed for removing battery cables from the battery posts.

no way around not replacing the trans, you can do it yourself, you can use a battery cable puller to remove the arms or just remove the nuts then wiggle the arm and it should come loose.

A bottle of Windshield Wiper Fluid was left in my car's back seat and burst from the heat. How do I clean it??

I bought a bottle of windshield wiper fluid when I got my car to get the battery changed. However, I was stupid enough to forget about the fluid in my back seat and the whole bottle burst the next day because the car was out in the sun the entire day. all the fluid got on my floor mats and the rug on the back seat. Everything dried and the entire car smells like alcohol every time I get in. Also, the back rug/mat turned blue. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get the blue off from the mat and the floor? This is very embarrassing and I feel very stupid for forgetting the bottle in the back seat.

Thanks!

you can take and shampoo all of this and that should get the majority of it out,it might be permanently stained though on somethings ,usually when alcohol sets a stain in like that, its sort of hard to get out,id try a real good shampoo first though, and hopefully all of it will come out, don't feel bad though i had a can of starting fluid blow up in one of my vehicles,it sounded like the car blew up when it went off and it was sitting in plain site too,it only got up to 98 degrees out side that day ,but way hotter in the car, good luck with it hope this helps.

You don't give enough information but here is a rule of thumb. Take the affected mats out, let them air dry, do the same with the car, open the doors and let it air out for a while. At least a day, try using a solution of a bit of Dawn Dishwashing detergent and some water, wash the area thouroughly and allow to dry. Once that is done spray some fabreeze on all the upholstery. It should make everything look like new.
Milo You should have kept it all in the trunk ,would you keep gasoline in the rear seating area? Dude like we all say got a clue? Why do vehicles all have trunks in them? The bottom line is you should keep all fluids in the garage and not in the car and the only things to keep in a trunk is the spare tire a set of jumper cables and emergency items like flares in case of any breakdowns. My oh my people just never learn from any of us do they ? Well my man you'll learn someday from all of this won't you?.....

How often should I change my windshield wipers on my car? How much do they cost?

How can I do this myself?

I usually change my wiper blades near the start of winter and begining of spring. Wipers go through a lot in summer constantly exposed to heat and so on and are prone to cracking and wear. The same goes for winter, constantly exposed to the harsh elements.

Streaking, smearing or the blade no longer maintaining adequate pressure or contact with the windshield are all surefire signs that wiper blade replacement is due.

Many windshield wiper kits sold today come with adapters to fit most domestic and import vehicles and instructions for installation are either printed on the packaging or on a leaflet inside. Installation is relatively simple usually taking no longer than fifteen minutes. A small bladed screwdriver may be required for some models, most just snap into place.

Not all wiper blades are created equal, some wiper blades, particularly on the drivers side are longer in length to that of the passenger side. For example the drivers side may be 22%26quot; long while the passenger side may only be 19%26quot;. Most parts stores can assist you in finding the correct size for your vehicle.

How much do you want to pay? You can pay up to $50 CDN for a set of premium blades, or a little less $15 to $25 for a set of budget blades. If my old wiper blades are in fair condition, I hang onto them until spring, in the event I need one in a pinch. Nows the time to stock up on winter windshield washer fluid as well!

You can get a pair at your local auto parts store or pick a pair at your local wal-mart for around $8. They last about a year
Whenever the rubber starts cracking or they don't clear wht windshield. Autozone has them for about $7 an up. If they aren't too busy, they will install them for free.
Change'em when they're showing wear or stop wiping well. Yes, you can change them yourself. About $8 a pair %26amp; instructions are included.
They're usually about $10 for each one. They're very easy to change, and the should come with instructions on how to do so.
To make them last Every time you clean your window Wipe the blades with a wet sponge
replace them as needed. Worn cracked or smudges. Easy to install about $15 for a pair. Make sure to get the right size

  • Toyota Previa - need to change wiper blades - help please!?

I need to change windshield wiper blades for my dad's 1996 Toyota Previa. I measured the driver and pas. side to 26 inch. and the rear one to be 17 inch. I went to autozone to ask for the blades and the man said that I can't just replace the blades myself, that Previa blades are special kinds and that I need to take it to the dealership. Is that true? If not, I need to know how to change the blades and need to know what kind of blades are compatible and what I need to replace them. Thanks!

i used the wiper blade refill which i think i got from walmart or autozone. try both. works well, not as expensive as the dealershit. cost less than $5 for both the front.
There is no way the wiper blades are a dealership item only. That would be against the law. If some dip-sh-t at autozone can't operate the computer, don't give up. Most replacement wiper blades have universal attachments to accommodate any car.

    Why did windshield wipers change?

When I was a little kid I remember windshield wipers pointed towards the center of the windshield and went up and down opposite each other in a staggered fashion. Then at some point they started pointing in the same direction and moving up and down at the same pattern and rate. I've always wondered why this changed.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? If so, don't you think the old way got the windshield cleaner?

    Thanks!
    Why did windshield wipers change?
Many old cars of the '50's and '60's had opposed wipers. Many used cable systems ( complicated ), newer cars used opposable but with hard linkages, but cumbersome, too. I would bet that one reason is that the old wiper motors used to be mounted dead center in the engine compartment, when they moved them off to the side, they could then mount one wiper in the center, so they could both move in the same direction. Probably less linkage complications and no cable crossovers with the wipers this way. Most wiper motors are now on the driver's side firewall. I'd say the main reason was to uncomplicate the linkage / cable pulley systems.
    Why did windshield wipers change?
You had a European car when you were a little kid. I've seen that particular kind of w/s wiper.

Not all carmakers do things the same. Even today there's a variety of w/s wiper types.

If it's any consolation, I like antiques that work like they should too.
Yes I agree that the windshield got cleaner the old way. However, the auto makers found out that it takes less components to make a windshield wiper assembly with the wipers going the same direction. So the bottom line was cost.

Safety Patrol Poll: When did you last change your windshield wiper blades?

B.Q. Do you use the product RainX? I do, and I give it an enthusiastic thumbs up. Though you have to be going highway speeds to really get the effect, you can safely drive in light-to-moderate rain with your wipers off. The water just rolls off.

    Thanks.
Safety Patrol Poll: When did you last change your windshield wiper blades?
    Weow do they need changin?

This so reminds me of the story of a person with a hole in the roof and it leaks when it's rainin.

    %26quot;I don't wanna go up there to fix it now, it's rainin outside.%26quot;

OK I understand sir then when it's Sunny?

    %26quot;Why bother, it ain't leakin then%26quot;
Safety Patrol Poll: When did you last change your windshield wiper blades?
    i dont have one

i just drive like that when it rains
...I should probably change them soon

BQ- Never heard of it, I like my windshield wipers
since I bought this vehicle I have now, I haven't' changed the wipers yet..

If rainx works like you say I will try it..heard it before people saying how great it works, just I never believed them....
They are due to be changed very soon.....!!
about two months ago, put brand spanking new ones on.
Rain X is a superb product and I had new wipers put on the last time my vehicle was in for an oil and lube job. (like the end of February)
After an ice storm wrecked them.

    BQ= no
    I must change my blades.

No rainX. Because it works too good. I mean it makes the window more prone to stone chips. It is a good product though.
Thanks for the information about RainX. I got my cars' oil change about a month ago. They check for everything, including windsheild wipers. My car is a 2009,and I have to check the wipers more often because the heat of the summer down where I live , makes the wiper blades break faster.
Nah ... I don't need it because I have the twins Bobby %26amp; Billy Mercer, they are Black Mamba's ..... They do an excellent job ..... and besides I NEVER get a Parking Ticket!

Can you buy any windshield wipers for your car?

I drive a honda car and I want to change my windshield wipers. Do i have to go to a honda dealership to change it there? or go to any car store and buy it from there?
Can you buy any windshield wipers for your car?
you can go to any car store and buy them there just be careful fitting them . You can cut them to the right length.
Can you buy any windshield wipers for your car?
Go to Walmart. There is a wiper book next to the wipers and it will tell you which ones are for your car.
Ask for help at a parts store. You dont have to go to dealer
autozone or any car parts store will be able to sell you new blades.
Go to your local auto supply store and most of them will change them for you.
You can go to any car store but there is a book that will tell you which wiper will fit your year and model (they might be out temporarily, but they usually carry 2 or 3 brands, its the only way I go)
you can go anywhere you want to buy new wiper blades. You can buy inserts or whole new blade assembly. I will recommend buying the triple blade silicone blades they are gauranteed for the life of your vehicle. They won't break down like normal rubber blades.
Try NAPA or any store that sell auto parts. Wal Mart has an auto department. Also K mart. Flex blades are the best. Use the chart to determine the type for your auto.
there are 2 types... look at the old ones on your car... one of them has 1 rubber track holding it into the wiper... and the other one has 2... just buy whichever one fits.. slide it in, and cut off the excess
    its not clear

I tried to go through a carwash today

I think maybe i started a war or something.

I was not allowed to go through the carwash since my window refused to shut
First, check your owner's manual. It should say in there what size of wipers you need. I get mine from Wal-Mart for under $3. As long as you get the right size, it's not going to make a difference where you get them. I wouldn't recommend going back to the dealer just for that, though. They'll charge you an arm, leg, and possibly your first-born child.
They have them at any auto parts store. I got mine changed a couple months ago. You go in and they have a catologue and you look up your car and find out what kind of length, thickness etc. your wipers are...or you can check on your wipers... and buy just the rubber wiper blades or you can replace the whole wiper blade holder thing. depends what you need. Go to pep boys, or other auto parts stores.
no, you can go to any place that sells auto parts. Such as kragen, auto zone, monument car parts etc..
Spend a little more, not the most expensive but don't buy the cheapest either. I bought the cheap ones about six months ago, they were never good, which is bad safety wise. It is just too important not to spend the extra money. Advance Auto parts has some that are about generally about 10 a piece that are great.
You can buy any brand of new wiper blades for your car you just have to make sure you buy the right size - 15, 16, 17, etc. Most stores have a wiper blade book so you can purchase the right size. Use this book and follow the directions on the package to install and you'll be set up in no time.
You don't have to go to the dealer to purchase wiper blades.

But you do need to get the correct blades for your car.

I would suggest going to Pep Boys, AutoZone or any other auto parts store local to you and they can figure out exactly which blades your car needs and they will probably even install them for you if you ask.
The first time I went to Murray's so they could tell me what size the wipers were on my truck. Now I go to walmart or back to Murray's and know what size I need so if you know your size you can go to any store that sell windshield wipers or car parts and you should find what you are looking for.

    Good Luck
get them anywhere dont go to a dealer...way overpriced
Auto zone will help you, they will look it up for you I have 2 vehicles and both times they where kind enough to come out and put them on for me
