How to change a headlight/ windshield wiper switch assembly?

Depending on your model of car, you may need to remove the steering wheel to change it. Others are easier where you only need to remove the plastic collar around the steering column.

2004 Chevy Suburban - How do you remove and then change the windshield wipers?

The blades don%26#039;t pull up away from the windshield as in other vehicles.|||check out autozone.com they have a good help section

How often do I need to change my windshield wipers?

My windshield wipers have started to work less and less. It%26#039;s only now bothering, but I%26#039;d like to improve their function. Should I clean them or should I replace them (they are 2 and a half years old).

Thank you!|||Standard estimate with %26quot;normal%26quot; usage is that you should change them every six months. At 2 1/2 years, I would say it%26#039;s time to change them. Make sure you consult your owner%26#039;s manual or go to an auto parts store and ask to make sure you get the correct size for both wipers.|||If you go to a place like AutoZone, they will sell you the correct wipers and help you learn to put them on.|||Replace them. Don%26#039;t be that cheap. They don%26#039;t cost a fortune. Instead of saving a few bucks, spend them so you can be safer.|||Replace them before they damage your windshield, windshield wipers should be replaced as needed.|||The time to replace them is when they leave a streak. The rubber has become unpliable and they do not make a good contact with the glass.

If it is slow, the reason is something else. Replacing them with a new one does not make them run faster.

The reason for low speed - it is of wrong size for your car. Wrong size (usually large size) puts additional load on the wiper motor and you could burn the motor to replace them sooner than needed.|||replace them. I would say once a year.

if you are concious of the cost you can buy a roll of just the blade rubber and fit it in the wiper yourself.|||replace every 3-6 mos. or use rain-x once a month.|||wow 2 and 1/2 years old. You got about 2 years more out of them than you should have. If you want your blades to work the best you should change them every 6 months. I do it at Daylight savings spring and fall. The only blade I have found that will last an entire year is teh Bosch Icon. It is a brackless blade that forms the window they are pretty expensive but are worth the money to me. They are about $25 a piece. So thats $50 for a set. Probaby more than you would ever think about spending on wiper blades but try them once and you will see why they are so expensive.

Windshield Wiper Blades Stopped Working - 1999 Honda Civic Hatchback?

The windshield wipers on my 1999 civic stopped working out of the blue. I tried changing the fuse and still nothing. I%26#039;m not sure if it%26#039;s the wiper motor either because when I turn my wipers on I hear the motor going - but my blades stay still. Any ideas ??|||It is possible that they need to be tightened down. There is a bolt where the wiper arm meets the motor. Take it off and look inside and make sure that the groves did not get stripped. If they are you may need a new wiper arm.

A bottle of Windshield Wiper Fluid was left in my car's back seat and burst from the heat. How do I clean it u

I bought a bottle of windshield wiper fluid when I got my car to get the battery changed. However, I was stupid enough to forget about the fluid in my back seat and the whole bottle burst the next day because the car was out in the sun the entire day. all the fluid got on my floor mats and the rug on the back seat. Everything dried and the entire car smells like alcohol every time I get in. Also, the back rug/mat turned blue. I%26#039;m wondering if anyone knows how to get the blue off from the mat and the floor? This is very embarrassing and I feel very stupid for forgetting the bottle in the back seat.

Thanks!|||I have heard that the Bissell Little Green Clean Machine is a wonder-worker for cars. I don%26#039;t own one, but a couple of my friends absolutely love it.

It will re-wet the washer fluid and suck it right out.|||if you are mechanically inclined you can try to remove the back seat and soak it with the hose, This will not damage the upholstery, but it will get rid of that horrid smell. The mat you could do the same with. It may have been permanently turned blue though.

Hope it helps|||Well I have not much information to go on so I will just assume that your seats are either leather or vinyl, those you can just wash off with plain old warm water and a soft cloth, the mats however must be scrubbed with either dishwashing liquid and about half cup of White Vinegar then scrub with a brush if these mats have carpeting on them then it should be with a stiff brush but don%26#039;t brush too hard you will tear up the pile just a gentle scrubbing action will do then rinse with hot water and allow to dry away from sunlight or heat these mats must be hung to dry Good Luck !|||use detergent or soapy water to wash the floor mats and rug maybe will help get the smell out but the rug and floor mats probably are permanently blue you should change floor mats and rug

tips:

next time you go out bring a little notebook and record what you brought that day make sure to look at the list that you brought everything out of the car (and put a star next to things that cannot be forgotten like the Windshield Wiper Fluid)

Why do my windshield wipers on my car always make noise?

It seems every time I put on my wipers, they make noise. Even after changing the wiper blades. Is it what I am using to clean my windshield?

When it rains real hard or consistantly I dont get the noise, just when it is drizzling or when I get road wash from other cars, little bits of rain or water.

I%26#039;ve noticed with new cars they never make noise, even when the windshield is completely dry. How do I get that?|||The noise is caused by the friction of the rubber against the glass, therefore when there is more water for lubrication, there is less friction and therefore less noise.

On the issue of newer cars not making the noise even with little or no water, that has to do with the fact that their windshield glass is new and smooth. With the smooth glass, the small amount of water is spread evenly across the glass, providing even lubrication. With an older windshield, there are scratches and knicks in the glass, giving the water a place to go and therefore not providing as much lubrication. When there is enough water (heavy rain, etc), the lubrication is there, and the noise stops.

The best chance of stopping this is to get a new windshield. However, as that is likely not a viable option, you can try the same method that one would use to remove scratches and smooth out their paint job...polish and wax.

Also, check to make sure that the arms that move your wipers aren%26#039;t bent in any way, causing them to be misaligned. Good luck.|||try using your washer, make sure it has water in it :)|||cause your are using your wipers too much. if its just drizzling then you dont need to turn them on full speed. try rain-x !! best stuff. as long as the car is moving the rain just beads off the windshield.|||ive have this problem with my bronco, but since i live in the desert it only rains alittle so it always happens, i found out the the springs holding it down are too tight or something and pushing to hard against windsheild, i dont know how to adjust them but when it does rain really hard it dont make the noise before of all the water.|||Try using some rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab and cleaning the wipers with that.|||Try triple edge wipers. They%26#039;ve never made noise for me or any car I%26#039;ve installed them on. They%26#039;re a little More expensive than say An-co wipers but they have a lifetime warranty with them as well. They are silicone impregnated and that makes the water run off the windshield like rain X And helps keep them from chattering|||I agree with Sarah

How often should i change my windshield wipers?

How often should i change my windshield wipers?|||i normally buy them whenever i hear the streaky noise or when there are smudges after i use them|||When they get streaky you can try and use isopropyl alcohol and clean the silicates and dirt off them, that helps sometimes. If they still streak, replace them..... The Michelin blades are awesome for longevity and price vs performance. You can get them at W-mart.|||I usually change them once a year right before winter. Just because cold weather destroys wipers that have become dry and brittle over the summer. I buy the cheepies though.|||I usually change my windshield wipers every year just as winter starts because the long hot summer days are hard on them.|||Whenever they start to streak. If you can afford to get them buy Rainx Latitude blades. They are really good.|||when ever it dont do the job i got new ones 2 times this year

Is it difficult to change windshield wipers on a 99 Buick?

Some autoparts stores offer replacement as a free service if you buy the new blades there. And even if it%26#039;s not official, some staff will just do it for you anyway.|||no, not really. its probably the same as my 88olds. all i do is pull up on a little prong and the wiper comes off. unless your talking about replacing the refills, then just push the 2 little clips togeather and pull the refill out.|||yup my 01 is same so its easy|||Not At All...!!

How do I change j hook type car windshield wiper blades?

Please be specific. I%26#039;m stupid with this kind of stuff.|||I%26#039;m going to call it a U for explanation sake. Just inside the open end of the U should be a small tab attached to the wiper. bend it away from the rubber part of the wiper and slide it out of the U or J at the same time. the new onee shold just click into place. You can look at the new one to see if you see the tab. also there should be directions with the new one.|||Lift the wiper arm off windshield. Turn blade on arm so it forms a %26quot;T%26quot; then pull down on blade. To install just reverse.|||if ur as bad as u say id go to any shop 4 about 5 bucks let them do it|||Just go to the parts store. Buy the blades, all of them will install them for free on your car.|||There should be a tab you have to depress. Turn the wiper like they said to form a T and slid it off the stud the J hook clips onto.

The new ones should just click on. Or take it to the autoparts store you purcheced them from and they%26#039;ll put them on and even show you what they had to do to install or remove them so you%26#039;ll know in the future.

Do I need to buy the most expensive windshield wiper blades or can I get away with the cheapest?

I live in Las Vegas. It rarely rains, but when it does it pours. I have lived in Las Vegas for 5 years and have never had to add windshield wiper fluid, when I get an oil change they top it off. The rubber part came off of the passenger side last month. I haven%26#039;t had to use my windshield wipers since then. |||I would get medium priced ones as the sun and heat there will dry them out in 6 months.|||in your case, you can probably get away with the cheap ones.

but with a cheap price comes a cheap construction. find yourself wiper blades that are not the most expensive but not the cheapest. |||make sure they are the right size and that you wipe the new wiper blade with an alcohol pad before putting them on your car. this will help keep them from rotting. the blades i buy are like 6 bucks each and theyre just as good as the 35 dollar ones!|||As long as you get the right measurement for your car, it doesn%26#039;t matter if you spent $5.00 or $20.00.

How do I adjust windshield wiper timing?

I drive a Honda Civic and my windshield wipers do not return to the park position when turned off. Also, one of the wiper speeds (very slow or intermittent wipe) does not work. Does the wiper motor need to be changed or is there any way to adjust the timing?|||If your car is like other cars, the stub shaft where the wiper arm is attached has lots of small splines. Remove the arm and reposition it where it needs to be. Sometimes the arms get moved (at the expense of the splines) when someone turns the wipers on the they%26#039;re frozen down.|||The wiper mechanism itself appears to be working fine.

There is a module that controls the wipers and where they land. If this goes bad, then what you are describing is common.

I don%26#039;t know what year Civic you drive, but for a 98 Civic 2dr Ex, you can find the module here:

Under the passanger side wheel well. Open up the black part of the fender, peel it back, and the module is plugged into the fluid bottle.

Also, check out this website for Honda owners. It%26#039;s a good place to ask questions and get ideas on other fixes for all Honda issues.

This is a thread about wiper blades.

Good Luck!|||The motor works, the wiper control module doesn%26#039;t.|||There is no way to adjust them, change the modual.

How do I change my 89 Ford f150 Windshield wiper motor?

My husband seems to think that you have to mess with the dash but i wouldnt figure you would have to. But can some one please at least send me to a sight with an answer? Its a 2 plug motor.|||No....you open the hood, and take off the front upper grill located directly in front of the hood. There is a series of 6-8 bolts/screws there. Once removed, you will have access to the motor, and its just take it off, and put it on. Dont try and do this with the upper grill on.....I did, and bent the panel and chipped the paint. You dont have to mess with the dash at all. If you want a walk throug, let me know, I have done it a couple of times.....

Should I change the entire windshield wiper blades or just the refills?

I am a very DIY sort of guy, and I am very cheap, too. I like the idea of keeping my windshield wiper blades and just changing the rubber refill. However, I can never find them in stores, and I don%26#039;t know anyone who has ever done this.

Are there any strong reasons against changing the refills?

Most things I have read say that changing the refills is a pain. Why is this? I dont mind taking an extra 10 minutes to save $10.

where can I buy the refills?

I am not particularly worried about my wipers leaving perfectly clear glass behind. I just need to change my current wipers, which hardly do anything.|||if the refill falls out like they sometimes do you can damage or scratch the windshield

avearge replacement of a wisdshield 250

is it worth it

refills also only last 1 year or less so next year you replace them again and spent more

being cheap is not always saving you money

like another answer said wal-mart. tou might spend a couple more bucks but they will last 2-3 times longer

also, picture if you will

you put on the refills and your in the rain and one slips out of the holder or falls out and you end up in an accident, and total your car? is that 10 dollars gonna come and save you? buy you a new car?pay for the insurance hikes?

when it comes to safety on a car, is it worth the 10 bucks?|||blades are better than refills and its not an extra ten minutes/P I A|||go to walmart and buy the ANCO brand, they are cheap and easy to change. you will prob spend 10 bucks for the 2 of them and 8 bucks for the refills.|||My usual practice is to buy the refills once, then buy new blades the next time, and then the cycle repeats. This has worked for me pretty well for the last 30 years or so.

How to change the rubber in the windshield wiper of nissan altima?

the wiper is ok ,its the rubber which wipes water etc.which needs to be changed, can anyone guide me step by step?|||its easier just to replace with an anco quick fit wiper.|||You do not want to do that. Just buy a new blade from AutoZone or another Auto Store....Fact is the rubber inserts are almost as costly as a new blade. AND can slip out and the raw metal blade can scratch your windshield.

How do you change the windshield wipers in a 1985 Lincoln Town Car?

I have a 1985 Lincoln Town Car and I can%26#039;t figure out how to change the windshield wipers. I tried opening the hood and changing them that way but that didn%26#039;t work. They don%26#039;t pull straight up and turning them on then off when they are up doesn%26#039;t work either. They just go back down. Can someone help me?|||dr layne is right. Turn off the key, when wipers are midway up the windshield, so you can pull the arm straight out away from the windsheild, grab the wiper and flip it over. This will allow you to remove the entire head, not the arm. Then follow the directions that came with the new wipers. I would suggest replace the entire wiper head, not just the rubber piece and get an expensive set of wipers ($10.00), not the cheapest ($3.00). |||You should do what I do, pull up in front of Pepboys, or AutoZone, and ask a silly question to make them think you%26#039;re clueless i.e. %26quot;Can you show me where the tools are to install windshield wipers%26quot; or %26quot;Can you show me where these go on my car?%26quot; . They%26#039;ll come out to show you, and usually end up doing it for you. |||Turn the wipers on, while they are in mid wipe, turn off the key, not the switch. How do I change my own windshield wipers?

I don%26#039;t have the owner%26#039;s manual to look up how to change the windshield wipers so it would be nice if someone can tell me in detail how to change my windshield wipers. How do I know what size the windshield wiper is? When buyng, how do I tell from good to bad? etc.

It might be hard and take a few minutes the first time, but every time after it will take perhaps 30 seconds per wiper. The guy at the checkout can look your car up on his computer and get the exact replacement ones for you.|||Flip the windshield wiper, so that the actual %26quot;wiper%26quot; portion is facing towards the sky. Press down and around the blade. What is left is a small hook.

Walk in to ANY auto shop and they will look up the size.

They should be replaced when they no longer clear the water from the windshield, manufacturer suggest no less than every 3 to 6 months. and the wiper fluid won%26#039;t stop flowing. I don%26#039;t new if i should get one with pulse or delay. Thank you|||On the front of the wiper transmission theres a module, which contains a circuit board with 2 relays, and a cam that rides the wiper motor and opens a switch every cycle. Remove the module and make sure the cam is properly placed (it should NOT be jammed on the pin, it needs to clear the pin), and make sure the ground tab (metal tab a screw goes through) doesn%26#039;t have any gasket material on it.|||On my Tahoe, we had to replace the fuse. What type of windshield wiper blades does a 2005 Chevy Cobalt use and where can I buy them?

I bought a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt in that year, and I have not changed the wiper blades since. The blades seem to be wearing out (i.e. - They frequently fail to get about 15% of the water off of the areas they traverse), and I want to replace them. I don%26#039;t know anything about windshield wiper blades. First of all, what type of blade does my car use? What is its designation? Secondly, from which stores can I cheaply buy decent brand replacements? Thanks.|||The factory uses a special type of wiper blade on the cobalt cars. You do not need to replace the wiper blade unless its bent. You should stop by your local chevy dealers service dept. They can replace the wiper insert (rubber part) of the wiper blade and it will work like new again. This will also cost less than replaceing the wiper blade with a aftermarket blade that will not work as well or clean as well.Best of luck.|||You should be able to purchase wiper blades for just about anywhere. Walmart, KMart, Zellers, Canadian Tire(if you are in Canada), etc. The main concern you need to know is what lenght (inches) each blade is. Also most department stores have a reference book to check the blade lenght. Depending on how much you are willing to pay, the range is vast. I purchase the $5/blade cheepy ones and replace yearly. Some can cost much more and may need to be changed just as frequent. Your choice.|||You will probably have to buy two sizes of refill blades for that cobalt.

The blades are two different sizes, unfortunately, available at autozone.

thanks for you time|||Depends on whether you are trying to replace the entire wiper assembly or just the rubber blade itself.

Many wiper arms have a hook at the end and you push the wiper toward the base of the wiper arm instead of pulling away from it.

To get just the rubber blade out I normally use pliers to bend one of the metal tabs on either side of the blade, at the end of the blade closest to the base of the arm, and slide the support band out. The blade will almost fall out without either one of the support bands. Then you slide the replacement back in.

The easiest was is to go to Autozone, Advance Auto, etc and they%26#039;ll change them for you for free.|||make it easy on yourself, get a tin snips or a wire cutters and cut off the old ones (do not cut the pole it sits on)

The wipers pull straight off of the post (that is 90 degrees from the wiper arm)

I once bent the arm trying to remove the wiper... look at the new wiper and see the center hole... that is the separation point.

cut it off and save yourself time

the new one snaps right back on that pole (it is about an inch or so long)
