Windshield wipers turning on without warning especially when it's warm? I drive a 2005 Nissan Maxima. Help?

2005 Maxima

Sometimes windshield wipers turn on and it happens a lot more in warm weather. Everything else in the electrical system seems to be working find. The dealer wants to change something called IPDM and charge several hundred dollars which I am not ready to do. Any other ideas?
Windshield wipers turning on without warning especially when it's warm? I drive a 2005 Nissan Maxima. Help?
Let me check that circuit. Yes I would have to agree with your dealer. The IPDM is located on the right side of the motor compartment under that plastic cover and another plastic lid with the fuse designations on the side.. When the wipers are running wild with rap on the IPDM with a Screwdriver Handle. Nissan Shop Manual I looked at it appears that the switch inside just talks to a CPU inside the IPDM and that device turns on wipers washers with relays for each speed. IPDM powers lots of other remotely operated electrical devices. IPDM is retangle shaped 1 1/4 inch thick with about 20 fuses and 15 black relays and 6 power wire sockets with lots of wires each. IPDM has two catches on each side and pull straight up. Get one out of a wrecked car but you must know that the trim level on the wreck is the same SL to SL SE to SE and LE TO LE. Things like cornering lamps HID headlights auto sunroof ECT. Different on different trim level cars. Good Luck

Just either unplug the sensor that tells the wipers when to come on or try to see if you can remove the fuse for it.

Windshield Problem?

There's these hair line scratches where the windshield wipers go it was like that when i bought it is like someone waited to long to change the wiper blades. Is there any way i can get them off?
Windshield Problem?
If the scratches can easily catch your fingernail, then, no there's nothing that you can do at home that will solve your problem short of replacing the windshield.

If they're much lighter, try getting a glass scratch-remover/polishing kit. You'll do a lot more effective work if you have a dremel tool or a small buffing kit to work the material on the windshield, since hand-removing the scratches is hand-straining work.

When you get the kit, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER!!! If you don't, you can easily haze/etch your windshield. That being said, it's not that hard of a system to work with, and if you're meticulous, you can end up with a crystal clear windshield.
Windshield Problem?
Nope! need to replace the windshield.
It's nearly impossible to buff or polish those scratches out of the glass. You really only have the option of replacing the windshield. It's about $250-300 on most cars. You'll be amazed at the difference in how well you can see, though!
actually, you can try waxing the windshield with a high grade carnuba wax, and buff it repeatedly...

otherwise you're stuck with the scratches until you replace the windshield.
yes get a new windsheld or get some old glass you dont need eny more and melt then wen it is still hot and put it on the windsheld then even it out with ruler.
depending on how bad the scratches are you have a chance of getting rid of it. Sounds like your situation can be resolved. I had scratches from my wipers metal scrapping my windshield and not replacing them soon enough and it cause all sorts of scratches. I just use a good high quality car glass cleaner and wiped it down really good with newspaper and it went away and now it's as there was never any scratches at least that I can see. If that doesn't work you can try using this orange hand cleaners made to clean grease off dirty mechanic's hands. Use the pre moistened wipes or get a small amount of the paste and rub it into the cracks in a circular fashion and that should take care of any hairline scratches.

Ford windshield wipers ?

My friend has a 1992 ford tempo GL and asked me to change out the windshield wipers. I have no clue to change them and I need some help on this. She bought the Rainx 20 inch just like the guide on Rainx.com showed would fit her car. A step by step answer or guide would really be appreciated on this.

How do you turn on the speed sensitive wipers in a Cobalt?

My parents bought me a cobalt a few days ago, I've heard they have speed sensitive wipers that change the speed of the windshield wipers depending on how fast you go. How do you set it to that setting to do so?

THanks.
How do you turn on the speed sensitive wipers in a Cobalt?
There is no option for speed sensitive wiper system for the cobalt. There is a option for rain sensitive wipers on some of the newer model chevy trucks that turn on the wipers when the sensor on the windshield senses moisture. Most of the newer cars and trucks also have a option for speed compensated volume which has three settings to make the radio get louder the faster you drive. Most people find this option a waste of time.Best of luck with your cobalt.

Can anyone help me find windshield wipers for a 06 Pontiac G6, other than a dealer?

Dealers are charging $60.00 for wipers, and I think it's highway robbery, I've always changed my own, and bought from AutoZone or any corner auto store.
Can anyone help me find windshield wipers for a 06 Pontiac G6, other than a dealer?
I haven't seen a 2006 model, but am curious to know if the wiper as a whole (blade and holder) are removed by clip or screw, if it does at all.

If it does, then don't worry about changing the blade itself- just go get the whole assembly and replace it, using the fittings for larger clips.

Can anyone help me find windshield wipers for a 06 Pontiac G6, other than a dealer?
I had the same problem. I ended up with one Trico and one Michelin from Walmart. The Michelins are a lot cheaper, but you can only find the 24%26quot; at Walmart with the proper connector. Both are good wipers and have lasted. I think when the Michelin wears out, I'll buy another Trico so they match.
Advanced auto carries 2 trico models for around $12
its almost impossible to find them cheaper than 30 dollars, the lowest i seen them was 32 dollars online. just google them to find a distributor online

How to Change Wiper Arm(s) on 03 Grand Prix ?

How to replace wiper arm(s) on 03 Grand Prix?

Started the car yesterday, wipers working fine...within 2 min the driver wiper was hanging off the windshield and resting on the side mirror. I'm pretty sure the arm needs to be replaced, and am thinking its more or less a simple job. But want to make sure before I begin. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
How to Change Wiper Arm(s) on 03 Grand Prix ?
Flip the cover off at the base of the arm, put the arm in it's proper position and tighten the 13mm nut back down and stop turning your wipers on when they are frozen to the windshield.

I have a 1997 Chevy Cavalier, I have trouble with the wiper motor?

I have had the wiper motor changed 3 times and the wipers stop pointing up on the windshield. I was told that it could be the intermittent switch under the dash. I was also told that this is a common problem, can anyone help me? Thanks
I have a 1997 Chevy Cavalier, I have trouble with the wiper motor?
intermitted switch is common problem check for recalls call gm dealer but the problem is in switch
I have a 1997 Chevy Cavalier, I have trouble with the wiper motor?
When the wipers stop pointing up,take them off and put them where they should be (in the rest position)and turn them back on and try it.
Your wiper transmission and or park mechanism is screwed up. On this crappy design there is a drive mechanism that is directly bolted to the wiper motor by 1 torx bolt. If this mechanism is broken the wipers will never park in the correct position. Why do they break? Well when you shut off the wipers the mechanism is now synched to move differently and engage a metal detent on the wiper transmission. What happens is that this detent breaks or bends and now the park mechanism does not no where to stop and either breaks or helplessly spins to wherever it feels like going. I would strongly recommend going to the dealer with this problem as they are well aware of this issue. Also tell them to install the support kit that enhances the area where this mechanism stops or you just might be buying another down the road

Is there any way that you can get scratches out of car windshields?

Just bought a used Honda Accord, it has scratches in the windshield from the windshield wipers. I s there a way to remove or get rid of them without changing the windshield?

Is there any way that you can get scratches out of car windshields?
the places that do the windshield crack repair %26quot;may%26quot; be able to fill them with the same epoxy they use on the small cracks but dont get your hopes up.

about the cheapest is if you have a u-pull yard locally that has a guy with a windshield stall...they usually charge $100 for a good used windshield and they put it in for you.

Need advice on windshield wiper problem...?

I have a 2005 Impala (3.4L), and my driver side wiper stopped working while on full speed, slinging the whole blade over to the driver side mirror. The passenger blade still works, and the driver side %26quot;twitches.%26quot; I have some mechanical skill (can change an alternator or fuel pump), but know exactly zero about wiper problems. Is this a do-it-yourselfer? Could it be the wiper motor, or does it control both wipers? ANY advice or resource references would be appreciated. Thanks. :)
Need advice on windshield wiper problem...?
Pop the hood and check the nut that holds that wiper arm it could be loose!
Need advice on windshield wiper problem...?
i think the bolt that is holding the wiper blade is loose. tighten it... if it does not help then probably the teeth inside are damaged and you will have to get a new wiper blade....
It is one of two things, the wiper arm or the wiper arm connector arm. You can check the wiper arm by taking the arm off of the mount and turn the wipers on if the drive moves back and forth then you need a new wiper arm. If that isn't the problem then you are going to need to remove the panel(s) that house the wiper drive arms and check to see where it has come undone.
motor ok...its working as u can see....transmission [yes wipers have one] its working,,,,the mechanical connection between the 2 wipers...uh oh... broke...look under dash [under hood] and figure out how to get at it..you should see the broken mechanism....
Buy the manual, you can replace this yourself. Sounds like to me the linkage broke inside connecting your wipers,

  • What are the best windshield wipers?

I live in Kansas City, MO where the weather changes every five minutes. What would be the best windshield wipers to have for that? I have a 1983 Chevy C-10. Any help would be great!
What are the best windshield wipers?
Im A store Manger for Auto retail Parts! i suggest Bosch wipers, they work great all year long! their $12 each. why because their flexible,Super high tech rubber, money back if not satisfy. i used them myself,

its perfect for Kansas weather, visibility has no price! and safety for our self %26amp; family priceless.
What are the best windshield wipers?
guy number two could not have driven the same car through a dessert a monsoon and a blizzard, unless he transported that car from one contenant to another. There is no contenant that has both a dessert and recieves monsoons.

Now to the answer for your question, Get a set of rainex wiper blades, They last for a long time they work well they won't scratch the glass. And they aren't too expensive. Remember you pay for what you get.
Just buy the walmart pylon ones...figure it this way: Maybe you buy a nice set of bosch wipers and pay 20 bucks a pop and they last you 6 months...but if you use the walmart ones you end up paying 8 bucks for a set and they last 3 months. They're fine, I use them in my car, and I've driven through everything from a desert to a monsoon to a blizzard.
I agree that Anco and Walmart make decent stuff...Their is no need for those pricey ones. If you deal with snow and ice-any type of winter blade is better..The winter blades are the bulky ones with the swivel points wrapped up...I personally run basic Ancos during the summer---switch to winter blades when it starts getting crappy--then back to the sleeker basic Ancos in the spring.
i personally like anco wiper blades they are made to car manufactureer specifications good luck gerald

I have 2003 infinity G35 it is just about 90,000 Is it a rip off 600 for major maintenance they want ?

What is important to have done at this point without being taken to the cleaners by the dealers..I have always changed my oil, air filter, tires rotated, changed windshield wipers..
I have 2003 infinity G35 it is just about 90,000 Is it a rip off 600 for major maintenance they want ?
Well...there should be a %26quot;major%26quot; maintenance around this time. There are other wear items like belts, hoses, and timing belt that need to be changes too. If they include the timing belt, $600 is a good price. Just make sure you know exactly what they plan on doing to the car. If you've taken care of it, then you know what hasn't already been done.
I have 2003 infinity G35 it is just about 90,000 Is it a rip off 600 for major maintenance they want ?
maintenance never has to be done at dealership even with a new car and since yours is not new any shop will be cheaper if not doing it your self
there is no timing belt on this car. the engine in the G35 (VQ35DE) is chain driven.

what is it exactly that infiniti will do for your $600???

what we do here at my dealership for a 90K service on a car of that year is this: oil change, air filter, cabin filter, rotate and balace tires. that's it. but we do not charge that much. we charge about half that.

How often do the windshield wipers need to be changed?

If you use cheap aftermarket or factory replacement blades (or inserts), then expect to replace them about once a year when they start leaving streaks.

However, if you spend a little more money and buy some silicone blades, they will last MUCH longer than standard rubber blades. Most silicone wiper blades have a 5-year warranty on them, and cost about $20 per blade or less. The cost is about the same or less than OE blades from the dealer, and about the same as 3 years worth of buying aftermarket blades.

I have a set on my vehicle that have been there for over 6 years and still work just like brand new. I have to admit I was skeptical when I bought them, but 6 years later it was well worth the money I paid for them.

They alse bead water off the windshield (similar to how Rain-X works) with an invisible coat of silicone on the windshield.
How often do the windshield wipers need to be changed?
Whenever they wear out, generally once a year. You'll notice that instead of really cleaning your windshield, the old wipers will smear them and make them look worse. That's clue # 1
How often do the windshield wipers need to be changed?
when they no longer work good and get annoying.
I would change them once a year or whenever you see them starting to leave streak marks on the windshield when it's raining.
i mechanic for a living,,and i usually change mine every six months,,and by then there usually needing changed,,the weather and the out side elements usually get them,,that s a good time to change them though,,good luck, hope this help,s
i change mine about every 2 days it keeps em nice and shiny :-)
Ideally -- every season. But if money is an issue, change them when

    1) They begin to streak

    2) They begin to make noise

    3) They no longer work well enough to allow you to SAFELY see.

    Happy Motoring
twice a year in summer and winter
twice a year. If you have daylight savings time where you live then I would do it spring and fall when time changes. That is what I do.
I personally replace them around the end of fall, when it starts raining more often, every year, but I live in a area that is hot and dry through all of the spring through mid to late fall. If you live in area that has a long period of hot, I'd replace them before it starts becoming more wet. If you live somewhere where it's not as hot, or rains more often, I'd be replacing them whenever they start to do an inadequate job. Typically, the adverage Wal-Mart blades work just as good as anything else, I reccomend either the Rain-X or the Michelin blades, they seem to work the best, and last a bit longer

    How to maintain a car?

i just recently bought a new car and i was wondering what i need to do, as far as maintenance, to make this car last for as long as it can. other than regular oil changes every 3000 miles / 3 months, im talking about alignment, changing tires, replacing brake pads, changing windshield wipers, tune ups, etc. how long do i wait to do each of those things? as you can probably tell, im a noob when it comes to cars, so any help will be much appreciated.
    How to maintain a car?
    Hey Jiggly,

All that information depends on the make/model. Everything in your car manual will tell you when you should replace air filters, change oil, what oil to use..etc. Changing tires depends on the tire wear. When you get your oil changed they usually check your tires.

Actually, one of the most important things to do is wait about 30 - 45 seconds after you turn your car on to drive away. It gives your cars computer system time to check everything, and also for the oil to get up into the berings. 90 percent of the engines wear isn't from driving, it's from starting the car up.
    How to maintain a car?
Follow a well prepared maitenance schedule. Oil changes etc. Keep records and reciepts and it will add value when you go to sell or trade the car down the road. Your service manual will give you all the info you need.
Go by the owner's manual and the dealer scheduled maintenance, that's usually your best sources for proper vehicle maintenance.
dude, all i know is that if you really wanna take care of your car, it takes MONEY lol esp. if you get those beater cars or if you're hella sprung off of it and you wanna add a body kit, rims, big *** spoiler, etc...*siigh* exhausting :P
Just try to follow the maintenance schedule issued with the car.

  • What do I have to do to change my wipers over so they become intermittent?

I have a '73 Monte Carlo with two speed windshield wipers, and I want to make them intermittent. Is it possible to swap in the wiper motor from a Caddy or Oldsmobile and change the switch? I don't even know if any Chevys came with that option back then. I'd appreciate detailed answers if this is possible.
What do I have to do to change my wipers over so they become intermittent?
Monte Carlos were available with intermittent wipers that year. If you could find the whole wiper system from another one and swap it that would be the easiest. Try this as a parts source. www.hemmings.com.
What do I have to do to change my wipers over so they become intermittent?
To be honest, all things on a car are possible. A lot of adaptation goes a long way but the question is...will it be worth the money it will cost to convert?

How to remove the patches left behind the windshield.?

    Stop windshield wiper streaking?

My windshield wipers were streaking up my windows, so when I took my car in for service, I had them change the blades. This, if anything, made the problem worse.

I recently e-mailed the dealership about this and they said that they would apply car wax to the window to stop it. This sounded kind of strange to me, but they were confident it would work. I've searched the Internet for a solution such as this, but have found nothing.

Anyone heard of this idea? I've tried wiping the blades clean, but it eventually still happens. I don't want to have to wipe my blades every few days... there's got to be a better solution, no?
    Stop windshield wiper streaking?
old blades maybe just because they new dont mean they good so stop by any auto parts store and get some only a few buck and take only a minute to replace just a clip pull and slide back in any small kid should be able to do it buy some new ones at autozone they will help you do it and i bet that will fix the problem.. th eproblem is that even thro the baldes are new they are old and dry you cant reallly look at them and tell but thats what it is just for buy some new ones like i said auto zone 10 bucks maybe

They might not be sitting tight against the windscreen. Try changing the actual wiper if it is a serious problem.

How do you change a 2003 jeep liberty's windshield wipers?

I bought new windshield wipers and can't figure out how to take the old ones off! My Jeep is a rebuild, and I don't have an owner's manual.
How do you change a 2003 jeep liberty's windshield wipers?
All you need to do is use a flat head screw driver or a butter knife in a jam and just push the metal clips on the blade's back and then it should slide right off. I have tried to open up the clips on the wipers which will work but is not worth the time to try to get the back lined up.

If the wiper is from the factory my 2003 wiper blades were literally attached to the metal. I took a knife %26amp; cut them loose. I then opened the clips and re-aligned them %26amp; yes it did take time.
How do you change a 2003 jeep liberty's windshield wipers?
go back to the store you bought it and ask. if it is a cool store, they'd ask if your car is out there and try to help you.

it isn't a day job. can be done in a few minutes.

so if you are asked to leave your car, don't trust them because they will charge you wayy extra for just installation
go to auto zone and ask them to help they will for free.
you should see a clip on the underside of the wiper. You can push that clip down, and then pull down. You can install the same way.

How do I remove scratches in an automobile windshield?

This is a 1995 Nissan Sentra. The scratches have been caused by the windshield wipers. Apparently the previous owner neglected to change the blades periodically.
How do I remove scratches in an automobile windshield?
I have some personal experience with this. The rubbing compound method won't work unless the scratches are VERY light, and even then you have to be careful, as too much rubbing wit h the abrasive rubbing compound will leave a hazy area on the glass (micro-scratches from the abrasives). You can go to your local auto glass shop and see if they can repair the wiper scratches, but even if they can (somewhat doubtful unless they're REALLY deep), the resin they use is not totally clear; you'll always be able to see the repair, even though it might make it look better short term. That kind of repair usually only works well on chips and stars.

Frankly, I'd eventually go with replacing it, because I honestly don't think you'll like the results otherwise. If it should get any further damage or develop a crack as a result of the scoring from the wiper scratches, your insurance will cover replacing it under %26quot;comprehensive%26quot; coverage. If you don't have that coverage, and can't afford a new windshield out of pocket, you can go to a salvage yard and obtain a good quality used one. Most auto glass places will install the used one for you for a modest fee (grudgingly, as they'd rather sell you a new one). Hope this info helped.
How do I remove scratches in an automobile windshield?
Depending on the depth of the scratches. You could either buff them out with rubbing compound or wax.

Of you will have to use a epoxy to fill in if they are deep. I would suggest you hire someone that is trained in doing this if you are not familiar with the technique. You can make the windshield worse or cause it to need replacement.

  • How interchangeable are windshield wiper motors?

I drive a 96 Buick Park Ave, and my windshield wiper motor recently gave out. Living in Central New York, this is um .. rather unideal for me.

I took my car over to Midas, and they wanted to charge me 250 dollars to change out the motor. And I didn't pay it. I took my car, and squinted my way home through the rain.

I'll probably go to a pick and pull and try to change them myself. But do I have to find my exact same car, or a Buick to make this happen? Or are they just a generic car part?
How interchangeable are windshield wiper motors?
They may be common to more than one GM model but you'd have to research the numbers to find out. If you've never changed a wiper motor, you'll wish you'd paid the $250, by the time you're through fighting with it.
How interchangeable are windshield wiper motors?
Check with GM to see if the part numbers are the same. If you've never done one of these, I'd suggest paying the money. If you have, good luck.
    Here ya go!

Used for less than $50 bucks and you can see they are rather easy to change out.

Typically three 12mm bolts and a simple electrical plug in for the controls.

What's wrong with my windshield wiper?

Only one works. I changed them, thinking it was the blade that wasn't working properly, but the one that wasn't working, still isn't working. Any suggestions? Please include the parts that I'll need in your answer. Thanks!
What's wrong with my windshield wiper?
They both operiate off one motor (in most vehicles) there is just linkage to the other one, if one is working its just a broken link to the other. (Normally just one motor, cuz its cheaper to do that way, but never know with all the different ways cars are anymore) So as for parts you need to take stuff apart so you can actually see the linkage that connect the wiper to the motor, yea its a tuffy I'm sorry but whats there is whats there. when you see the linkage turn them on and then you will see where the link is broken, may just be something small and simple because the hard part will be to actually get to where you can see. But you never included make of car and specific info the help you get out won't be too specific. Thats my best answer based off the info u gave. Best of luck.
What's wrong with my windshield wiper?
Wipers as you know work at the same time! they are connected usually typically two 4-bar linkages in series or parallel. sometimes they become disconected, you would have to look underneath the find the problem. you could do this yourself, look for repair help online. go to your local library or by a repair manual.

Good luck and I hope it does not rain anytime soon!
There is a nut that loosens at the base of the wiper arm. You may have to pop a plastic cap off to see it. Tighten the hut while the wipers are in the off , parked position. Make sure the arm and blade are in parked position when you tighten the nut.
just the 1 not working ? it might be 1 of the arms popped off the wiper motor. not the wiper itself but the long arm that hooks on the motor.
What kind of car? It's very likely a plastic part that connects the linkage to the motor has broken.
the other Wiper motor is out of work!! check fuses!! may be it help!! but its better to go for a garage trip!!
    What!!!

The reason I need to change them is because it leaves big areas that do not get wiped when it rains. It's definitely dangerous with the weather the way it's been.
Best windshield wiper for a 2002 Toyota Camry? Best price?
Here is what I did on my truck as the wipers on it seemed too short.

measure the one you have and then go get new one(s) that are 2%26quot; longer, see if they sit flat on the windshield if they do then you have increased your wipe area by 1%26quot; high and 1%26quot; low, you will see a difference. get the whole assembly a whole 6 bucks for the Rain-X

I use the rain-X and they seem to not get hard like the cheapies, but I also have winterguard wipers on my Grand Prix. they have a boot over them that keeps them from icing up when it snows. they are expensive about 15 bucks/wiper.

In addition the to above apply rain_X solution to the windshield. It really works wonders. Follow the direction on the bottle.
some where around five buck or so for any of them they are all about the same and anyone can do it them selves or to a autozone and they will do it for you..is a once a yr thing too in most places some time more offen

  • 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA: How do I change the freakin' windshield wipers?

I got new ones but I can't seem to get the old ones off...is there some big Toyota secret I am not privy to?
2006 TOYOTA TACOMA: How do I change the freakin' windshield wipers?
NOPE all windshield wipers are a pain in the ***, the best guy to ask for help is the guy that sold the wipers, most times, if they are not to busy those auto parts guys will love to help customers, so feel free to drop by and ask them good luck!
2006 TOYOTA TACOMA: How do I change the freakin' windshield wipers?
If you got them at an auto parts store and not a department store, ask them to come out and show you. Places like Shucks, Napa, Les Shwabb will come out and do it for you.
If You go to like advance auto they will install them for free. Life is great.
Are you near me?I am happy to help you!

Uh is it time to change my windshield wipers?

Pretty much a dumb question because I got my car in october 2004 so just about 5 years ago and i have never changed my windshield wipers :). I can tell they do not work that well and the passenger side one is 1/4 broken like the rubber piece is flopping around. They seem to work decent enough but even at 4-5 years even if it does not rain much i would think people still switch them. I am in the southeast so it does rain enough here. I was just bored and wanted some other opinions. Also what would be around a good price, i went to a store 1 brand was like 18 dollars, rain x was around 9 dollars and another brand was 5. Would it matter what kind i get i know i need the right size but durability wise. Thanks lol!
Uh is it time to change my windshield wipers?
5 years !!! i cant even get my cars to run for that long :)

usually the more expensive last longer but you can get a bargain out there.

i paid 3 euro (bout $5) for my second last set and they worked perfect for a week then went all streaky even though the package said as good as top brands. my latest set were 20 euro ($12 - $15) and are still perfect 6 months on
Uh is it time to change my windshield wipers?
Doesn't really matter what brand but I like Rain X best. I also like to wash my windows with Rain X it seems to help when it is raining. But yeah I'd say your need to change them. It's been five years and one is broke.
I usually replace mine when I see streaking, which averages about every 2 years. The Rain-X wipers are very good. I highly recommend them.

hi how much do new windshield wipers cost for civic 2008? and i can i change them myself as i broke mine

They're hard to change sometimes, but maybe an auto parts store where you buy them will agree to install them for free. Make sure to tell them you don't want to buy them if they won't install them for free.

Windshield wipers on Carvan make noise constantly - help!?

I have a 2000 Dodge Caravan. I change my windshield wipers at least every 3 to 5 months. They make horrendous noise when they are working - the noise sounds like they are rubbing on a dry surface when in reality the rain is coming down in buckets. They work but the noise is so annoying that you just want to turn them off and drive in the rain - not a good choice.

My husband says they are not %26quot;turning over%26quot; from one side to the other and that's what is causing this horrible noise. If that is the case, what can I do about it -
Windshield wipers on Carvan make noise constantly - help!?
Try using Rain-x washer fluid. This should stop the noise.
Windshield wipers on Carvan make noise constantly - help!?
Get a set of triple edge wipers. They are a little more expensive but they have a life time warrany on them and are silicon impregnated to keep them from chattering like you described. I've never had a set make noise
in your case, theres an old mechanics saying, if it aint busted, dont fix it, clean the edges of the blades with a soft rag soaked in rubbing alcohol
next time you wash your car, clean your windshield with a liquid cleanser ( with no grit) and then use rain-ex.

it sounds like you may have something sticky on your windshield

    that you can't see
My wipers make this noise also when I turn them on. It sounds like a scrubbing noise almost. I'll tell you what works for me. Keep windshield washer fluid in the reservoir, every time you turn the wipers on spray some fluid on the windshield even though it is raining. This is what I do and mine stops the noise and works like they are suppose to. I have not changed my wiper blades in probably two years and they are still in good shape.

  • Can the settings on my windshield wipers be changed?

My 1999 Toyota Tacoma only has 2 windshield wiper speed settings: fast and faster - no delay setting. I can also bump the lever up for one swish. Living near Seattle I often deal with that constant, fine drizzle that doesn't call for a fast wiper speed, and I often find I have to bump the lever up for a swish every 15-30 seconds. Most cars come with a delay setting built-in, but not this one for some reason.

Can the settings on my wipers be changed so I have a delay setting?
Can the settings on my windshield wipers be changed?
I'm sure intermittent wipers were offered as an option on 1999 Toyota pickups. Have you thought about asking the dealer? Also, JC Whitney offers intermittent wiper switches for cars without it. I've seen these switches and have been tempted to install one on my 1972 El Camino SS, but can't seem to get around to it.

    Ask the dealer.

    Replacing windshield wiper blades?

Is there any specific indication that the ones from years ago that were simple to change performed badly? It seems that the changing procedure has matured into a very complex thing, anyone else thing so also?

Yeah, its jacked up, but all ANCO wiper blades have detailed instructions on how to install them. they are sold at almost all major parts stores.

What to do in a rain when I dont have back windshield wiper ? Help plzz?

I have a 2002 corolla CE , so it doesn't have back windshield wiper . I am a new driver though, so it's really scary sometimes when it's raining and I dont have vision in the back , from the sides , rain drops blur every glasses they stick too.

    What 's your advice ?

Just a few more questions I 'd like to ask too ,

    pretty silly though,

When changing gears , D to R and vice versa , I heard strange noise somewhat sounded like belt gripping in rainy day, that only came off when I RELEASE the brake ! good chance it was a transmission problem ?

I am told that I have to apply the brake ALL the way down before changing gears ( automatic transmission ) otherwise I would damage the transmission . Is it true ?
What to do in a rain when I dont have back windshield wiper ? Help plzz?
for your back windshield try using rain-x i have used it before and it works pretty good.

You can always keep your glass pretty clean and it should just roll off anyways.
What to do in a rain when I dont have back windshield wiper ? Help plzz?
If you don't have rain-x just use a spray on wax it works great.

The noise could be the drive belt but yes you need to fully stop before changing gears.

Yes you will damage the transmission.
You can get a bottle of rainx for 3 bucks. A blown transmission is close to 500 for a manual.
Stop driving in reverse, Absolutely ok to shift into any gear you desire while driving at any speed.
    I agree with P-nut.

Rain-X all the windows on your car. When it rains, you will be amazed how well you can see. Use your wipers as little as possible. That what wears off the Rain-X.

As long as your car is stopped, changing gears from R to D or D to R will not cause damage to the transmission.

Remember, a car can be stopped after releasing the brake pedal. Then change gears. Transmission is sort of designed to allow you to change gears from Park to Reverse to Drive. If a light touch on the brakes keeps the car stationary during the gear change, then that is all that is needed.

I am saddened by all the bad advice that is being dispensed to young, new drivers.
When bad weather hits, it often hits hard and with a fury. It's during the wet rainy weather that driving becomes more difficult and challenging. What helps me to be the best and safest driver during wet rainy days with snow and sleet mixed in is RainX Invisible Windshield Wiper.

I am the type of driver who is constantly spraying on windshield washer fluid to remove grime and salty remains from my windows while driving in the winter. I am thankful that Blue-Coral-Slick, Ltd, the manufacturers of RainX products, had the consumer in mind when developing their patented formula found in RainX car care products. The Invisible Windshield Wiper is, in my humble opinion, one of their more superior products.

So, I was driving the other day behind a vehicle that was still snow covered. Apparently the driver was in a hurry to go somewhere and removed a minimal amount of snow, enough to clear his front and rear windshields. Suddenly, although not snowing outside, my windshield was covered with snow and ice that was blowing off of his vehicle.

After putting on my windshield wipers, to my dismay no washer fluid was emitted! The dry wiper blades were no match for the mass of mushy mess that was sticking to my car's windshield, decreasing my visibility every second. I threw on my hazard lights and confidently pulled off the road knowing that I had RainX Invisible Windshield Wiper in the trunk of my car.

What is RainX Invisible Windshield Wiper

I purchased a box of RainX Invisible Windshield Wiper that contained yellow packages of handy ready to use towelettes. These large sized, pre-moistened towelettes are ideal for the situation that I found myself in.

The thick tough twelve inch cloths contain the original magic formula that RainX is known for. The formula, once applied, really does repel rain, sleet and snow, as promised. It is quite impressive when you think about it. One minute I could not see beyond the ice and snow that clung relentlessly to my windshield. The next, I was back on the road seeing through brilliantly clean glass.

    Directions and Experience

Using RainX Invisible Windshield is extremely easy, with very little preparation needed. It is suggested to clean and thoroughly dry the surfaces that need to be treated, however, in my emergency situation, I did not. Yet, I have first hand experience that this product works beautifully through dirt, grime and other slush. So, then, you can imagine the superior results if applied correctly!

The special formula in each towelette will last at least one month after applying. Just wipe the entire windshield, mirrors and windows in firm circular motions until dry. I also use the same towelette to treat my headlights and rear lights. RainX works great at restoring the brightness of my headlights, especially after my vehicle has been parked for a day or so, collecting frost, snowy salt and dirt. I live in an area where dirt is applied to the roads after plowing the snow. This is very messy and does decrease the functionality of the headlights.

After the windshield and other glass surfaces are cleaned, it's directed that a second application is performed prior to wiping off with a paper towel.

    Final Thoughts and Recommendations

Rain-X Invisible Windshield Wiper is an excellent product that I highly recommend. It has saved me from driving through dirty wet windows on more than one occasion. The handy towelettes are so convenient. I now keep a package in my glove box for such emergencies as I recently experienced.

2002 ford taurus- windshield wiper fluid not working?

My washer fluid seems to be frozen. When I turn it on the wipers go on but no fluid comes out. The wiper fluid is full. I think the last time I had my oil changed they toped it off with just water or very deluited wiper fluid. How can I get the ice out and then drain the fluid? It works when the temp is above freezing, however here in NH it's mostly below that all winter and I can't go without it.

    Thanks
2002 ford taurus- windshield wiper fluid not working?
    add some ant-freeze to it.
2002 ford taurus- windshield wiper fluid not working?
the fluid itself is frozen? I'd find that hard to believe. You're talking about the fluid nozzles right?

just pour a bit of hot water on the nozzles and you will be right as rain.
have someone(with hood open)and engine off, listen by the washer bottle, when you turn on washers.if it is running, find where the washer hose comes out of the bottle, unplug and try again .if it squirts, the blockage may be at the nozzles that are either on the hood or attached to the blades.if its a block of ice, thaw it out(if you can get to it...maybe a hair dryer.good luck..
Bring the car indoors until it thaws, squirt the rest of the water out, fill it with the right stuff, and then smack yourself and say %26quot;Never do that again%26quot;.
Don't put antifreeze in it, the simplest way would be to bring it indoors or just drive it and it will thaw itself out with the heat of the engine, after that just add the correct fluid.

While it is thawing out just disconnect the small rubber line that goes to the bottle so that it will drain quicker.

A very fine polishing compound will get it out, but be very careful. Try it first in a spot that is not in your normal sight path. Rub very lightly. Hope this helps

PS. I have heard of using toothpaste before, but have never tried it. Might be worth a try.
Scratch on a windshield of my truck from a wiper?
Any time you file an insurance claim for a loss that took place when the policy was not in force, you are committing insurance fraud, a $30 billion dollar per year problem in the United States.

Most insurance companies do not cover scratches in any case, as this is considered normal wear and tear, similar to your tires wearing out.

Regardless, a scratched windshield usually must be replaced, but your local auto glass shop can give you an assessment as to whether the scratch can be buffed.
I know of only one way to eliminate a scratch. Get a new one. If you have windshield replacement on your insurance , use the insurance If you don't have it call your insurance company. It only cost@ average $2.00 a month to add it even if you only have minimum liability
    Get real.

How do I change my windshield wipers? URGENT!?

I need to change my windshield wiper on the driver side of my car. The rubber is literally flapping in the breeze. It's snowing outside and I need to leave in a couple hours for about a 45 minute drive. It's snowing bad enough that I'm afraid that if it hits the windshield and melts quick enough, I won't be able to see.

So, here's the problem. I have a '91 Buick century. I bought an Anco wiper arm (plus the rubber), but looking at it now, I cant for the life of me figure out how to change it. It looks like it has a pin that has to be taken out before anything can be done, but I'm not sure. Anyone who has any suggestions/knows how to change this model, PLEASE let me know.
How do I change my windshield wipers? URGENT!?
The pin stays with the wiper arm.. here's the trick.

Take a flathead screwdriver and pry it between the pin and old blade. Turn the screwdriver to pop of the old wiper from the pin. Then the new blade you just press it firmly on the pin and you're good to go.

If you look at your old blade, you'll see a small opening in the center of the metal with a bit of a spring on it, you can also push down with that screwdrvier on the spring, and with your thumb push the pin through the old blade at the same time.

Go to autozone or Advance auto website there are tutoreials there that will help you.

How to remove various other assemblies:

    Bayonet arm-

Press release lever under connector, pull blade off.

    Side-Pin Arm-

Depress release lever, slide blade off the pin.

    Locker arm-

Pull out side lock, lift off blade assembly. Push blade toward base of arm and lift off.

    Shallow hook-

Pull out side lock, rotate blade and remove. Press blade against arm, rotate and remove.

    Shepherd's Crook-

Squeeze spring arms together; slide blade off.

Push lever down until arm unlocks; slide blade off.

It should be a hook type. there is a little tab that you depress and

it will slide out backwards. If you need reference, just look at the

passenger side. Hopefully, you are in a lot or service area where

someone might help you as well. You may want to start with that.

I know it's cold, but take your time and get it right or you will wind

up having your new blade fly off. AND DON'T LET THAT WIPER

ARM HIT THAT WINDSHIELD BY SPRINGING BACK. IT WILL BREAK.......!!!!!!!

    Good Luck to you..
If you are having a tough time, it might be worth the effort to take it to a quick lube shop. They will gladly change the wiper for you (at a premium part price) and you don't have to routinely use them for this sort of thing. I would consider it because you are in a hurry.
yes your right a bot the pin take it out, take off the whipper and replace it, if you are only changing the rubber their should be a staple type of thing on one side, Just slide it off and slide the new one on it not to hard.

What would cause windshield wipers to stop working on a 95 intrepid?

My windshield wipers stopped working. I changed the fuse. I can hear the motor but they do not go. What would be the cause? If it is the motor are they expensive for this type of car to replace?
What would cause windshield wipers to stop working on a 95 intrepid?
Looking at the front of your car, behind the hood, is a strip of metal fitted there called a cowl. What you need to do is remove this. I can't remember on that car, but I think its on with screws. Regardless though, it needs to come off. Then turn your wipers on. Look down under where the cowl was. Make sure your motor is running. Make sure the arm coming from the motor is moving. If the motor is running but the arm is not moving, then the attached gearbox is bad. If the arm is moving, then make sure all of the linkage is attached and working properly.

From my experience, it's more than likely some of the linkage has done come loose. Sometimes all that is needed is to snap it back in where it goes. Sometimes a plastic keeper may have o be replaced. Anyway, you just have to get in there and take a looksee at what the problem is.
What would cause windshield wipers to stop working on a 95 intrepid?
there are gears inside the motor boxes for wipers and if they are bad its a little spendy and since its a dodge the gears are nylon plastic type and break really easy
Replace the motor.I do not the price.

    Homemade windshield wiper fluid?

Can you just put water in your wiper fluid tank instead of buying some wiper fluid? I know some people make their own mix, though I don't know what they use (windex and water?)- does anyone have any suggestions of what I could put in, what they have found works best so I don't have to go to the store and buy some or wait until my next oil change to get the fluids topped off? Thanks.
    Homemade windshield wiper fluid?
You could follow these instructions: %26quot;Combine 3 c. household window cleaner with 1 gallon water in a pail.%26quot; Be sure to read the 'Tips and Warnings' at the end of the instructions, especially regarding winter use. (Source #1)

    Here's another recipe I found:

%26quot;Keep your windshield clean with a simple, homemade washer fluid. Just add two tablespoons of liquid detergent, three cups of rubbing alcohol, and enough water to fill a clean gallon milk jug.%26quot; (Source #2)

For more ideas, just Google the words %26quot;homemade windshield wiper fluid%26quot; (you'll get a lot more results without the quotation marks).
    Homemade windshield wiper fluid?
It only costs about $1 for a gallon, don't be so cheap.
She's right about the price. You really should just buy it.

But to answer your question about just using water, the answer is %26quot;NO.%26quot; If you put straight water in there you will start to grow little sea monkeys and other slimy stuff that will clog your system when the weather is above freezing. Then when it gets below freezint the water will freeze, expand, and crack your fittings, pump, and possibly even the resivior itself. Straight water is very bad.

You can buy different brands for a couple of bucks if you want a better %26quot;quality of fluid%26quot;. I like the rain-X stuff.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to replace a cracked front windshield?
around 300$,dealer more expensive.go to body shop and use not vw part will be cheaper
It depend on the windshild and if your insurance will cover it that is if you have insurance that covers it. we got ours fixed estimated around 250 to 300 but since we had insurance cost us nothing.

good luck make sure you get qoutes from more then one place and see if they match prices. and sometimes going to a specialist is cheaper then a dealer.
You can buy one for about 100$ (mine for my Kia Sephia cost me 112$). A tube of glue costs about 10, and a couple hours of hard work and broken glass all over the place. Call Triumph auto glass, they are good and cheap.
if you go to glass.net you can get a price qoute from a repair shop in your area. It my cost some where around $275-300
Call you insurance company first. You may be covered. In some states, it is state law that companies cover cracked windshields.
shop around my friend.all glass is the same just find the best deal...
before you buy anything, call your insurance company and see if you have glass coverage. not all winshields cost the same. also beware of the shops that come to your door to do replacements, especially in cold weather. in shop repairs at an established auto glass shop are recomended., and they usually have a good rate for non insured drivers.

When should you change your windshield wipers?

When should you change your windshield wipers?
you will know...when they bug you cause they aint workin good advance auto will put them on for you..I just did mine.
When should you change your windshield wipers?
If the rubber isn't sopping up the window cleaner or giving you a clean windshield-when operating the wipers in a storm, chances are it is time for new blades. If the rubber is falling off the wipers, you needed to replace some time ago.
You are supposed to change them every 6mo, but I change mine every 12.
IT DEPENDS ON THE CLIMATE YOU LIVE IN. I LIVED IN THE DESERT EAST OF LOS ANGELES A MONTH OF HOT WEATHER WILL RUIN A PAIR OF WIPERS. SO IN GENERAL I WOULD SAY ONCE A YEAR IS A GOOD RULE OF THUMB.
I usually get 6-9 months out of the ones in the front and about 18 months for the rear wiper.

but the wiper blade on the driver's side still streakes even after the new blade was put up- what should i do?
I just got a new front windshield for my car- and changed the wiper blades recently...?
First make sure if you wash your car to keep wax off your windshield, that will interfere with your blades.

With the streaking problem take a baby wipe or the harshest thing I would use is an alcohol wipe and run it along the blade of the wiper. This will remove any residue on the blade. If it still streaks wash the windshield with a good window cleaner to make sure there is no residue of any kind on the window.
I just got a new front windshield for my car- and changed the wiper blades recently...?
Sorry, you should probably buy another one. Or look at the one that's there, does it look okay?
check the wiper arm itself, make sure it isnt loose. if its tight, you can bend it toward the windsheild a little bit. that will put a little bit more pressure on the wiper causing it to clean the windsheild with no streaks
quality wiper blades come with a little tube of blade conditioner. Rub it along the edge of the blade before you put it on and it should prevent streaking. Also use a quality windshield wash like RainX, it will help prevent streaks.
Get new blades. They just don't seem to make 'em very good anymore.
Try cleaning the blade with alcohol.

How do you know when to change your windshield wipers?

The guy at the Auto Zone told me that it needs to be changed about every 6 months to a year. It also depends on where you live. California has no rain, so it tends to dry out the blades. I hear cleaning it with alcohol helps too, in restoring it a little longer.
How do you know when to change your windshield wipers?
When they are not cleaning, when they are dry, tear, low profile.
How do you know when to change your windshield wipers?
When they start streaking the windshield.
When it pulls away from the glass, streaks and doesn't really clean, change it. It is best usually to change them every three to four months depending upon use and ware. Exposure to harsh sunlight may also take the moisture out of them.
HINT: Squeek! Squeek! or pieces of rubber flying off, or no rubber at all.
When they start leaving streaks, or fail to adquately clear the windshield of water, when they start to fray, pit, feel hard or brittle and/or start to chatter and skip as they cross the windshield, it is time to replace them. They are inexpensive enough to replace them on a regular basis (like once a year) if you feel like they aren't doing a really good job. This is particularly true if you live in the snow and icy parts of the country, or you live where there are a lot of bugs (which increased usage demands and causes pitting of the rubber), or dry, dusty areas where you use the windshield washer fluid a lot.
you know you should change them when while it's raining you hear that irratating squeky noise.
When they're like mine, and the rubber falls off, making the most horrific noise you'll ever hear when it scrapes across the windshield.
Change them when you change your oil...that's when I do mine...rather, when Walmart does it for me!

  • My windshield wipers are not working on 1999 crown victoria even after changing the fuse Was rewired as a DO?

The motor might be burned out if you don't hear it running. If it jambed up that could have caused the fuse to blow. Replace the motor.

My windshield wipers do not touch the windshield in all places especially at high speeds. What could it be?

I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu LS. I have changed the wiper blades several times with no positive results, so it is not the blades. I have cleaned the windshield, so there is nothing on it (ie. wax). The spot on the windshield that is missed is right where I need to look through and it is very dangerous driving this way. I do a lot of freeway driving. Any ideas on what could be the trouble?
My windshield wipers do not touch the windshield in all places especially at high speeds. What could it be?
try taking it to a mechanic.
My windshield wipers do not touch the windshield in all places especially at high speeds. What could it be?
You need new wiper arms..the springs in the ones you have are weak !!
the spring in the wipers are getting weak/ wore out/ and the wind is pushing the blades up off the glass.try buying new wiper arms.
Wiper arm springs are week or airflow is lifting wipers from window. Replace the wiper arms or purchase and install an air dam across lower part of winshield. This will help to deflect wind from the wipers and also a a custom look to your car. Can be purchased at most auto parts stores.
So the wiper come off the windshield when driving fast not with the wipes on high speed right?? If this is the case try bending the wiper arm slightly. Grab the wiper in the spot where it go to a flat bar.Gently push the tip of the arm not the blade inwards the windshield. Go slow it may take a couple of tries. If this fails to correct the problem you may need new wiper arms. The spring under the arm looses tension and lets the wipers float on the air flowing over the hood. Some people have had used a bug shield on the front of the hood to alter the air flow too. Last you could try the wiper with the air foils on them but must of the time they end up just being for show. Good luck hope I helped

    Wiper Blade - Teflon - Driver's Side

    WIP

    602240 $13.49

    Wiper Blade - Teflon - Passenger's Side

    WIP

if it's the arms you'll probably have to go to a dealer.

by the way how fast are you going? not much will stick to a windsheild aft 80-85 mph unless it has aerfoils on it to make it press against the surface.
If you have the appropriate blades the only other thing is the wiper arms. Not cheap..The springs that hold tension on the arms get tired.. Easy replacement, you can do it..If you live near Marlborough, Ma. stop in to Car Quest and ask Rob to put them on for you.Tell him Buzz sent you..No charge..accommodating kid of a guy...

Put windshield wiper fluid in antifreeze reservoir, will it do damage?

While in a rush to get out, I put the fluid in the wrong place. The car has not overheated but I have smelled the fluid evaporating. There is no difference in engine temperature or running condition. Its a 2002 civic LX with the non vtec motor. Can I leave it in to evaporate or should I change the fluid?
Put windshield wiper fluid in antifreeze reservoir, will it do damage?
Change the fluid. What's that gonna run you? About $6? I'd rather spend the $6 change the fluid and know that everything's okay than leave it in there do some irrepairable damage and have to buy a new car.

Windshield wiper fluid is heavily alcohol based. It evaporates quickly so that it doesn't leave streaks.

Anti-freeze is polyethylene glycol. It's designed to keep your engine cool. It stays consistently the same viscosity no matter what the temperature is. Either way, it's a bad idea to be trying to cool your engine with alcohol.

    CHANGE IT.
Put windshield wiper fluid in antifreeze reservoir, will it do damage?
The only thing you might notice is that there will be a foam build-up in the resevoir from the wiper fluid cleaner, but other than that, it will be ok.
Depends on how much you put in. but it shouldn't be a problem. Have the coolant concentration checked to make sure that it won't freeze and adjust as neccesary.
unless your car has a coolant leak it will not evaporate as cooling systems are considered sealed, unless they have leaks. you need to flush your coolant, probably a few times. the cheapest way to do this is to drain and fill with DISTILLED water 2 or 3 times. and afterward, refill with the proper coolant. washer fluid is not compatible with coolant and will cause rusting of the radiator and engine block.
You should remove the wiper fluid from the resevoir. Unbolt the resevoir and clean it out if you have to. Then only put 50/50 premix antifreeze into it. Do you wish to risk harming your vehicle for this ?
Flush the cooling system. Washer fluid can have some pretty strong cleaners that your seals and gaskets might not take too well to.
Good time to flush the system, re-fill it 50/50 and if thermostat is original change it too. It won't harm anything if only a little was added.

    Windshield wiper issue?

I have a 1998 sable. I am having a problem with the windshield wiper and i'm unsure if its a wiper motor or switch problem. When i turn the switch on, sometimes the wipers work, and sometimes they don't. Sometimes they work perfectly, other times they speed up and slow down, even when i have not changed the wiper setting. Sometimes when it is on the low setting, the wipers are working as though they are on the high setting. Today, i had it on the lowest setting possible and they did not work, then i shut if off and then back on, and it worked perfectly for an hour. I'm thinking that the motor is ok and that it is a switch/connection issue. Any ideas? Thanks.
    Windshield wiper issue?
Yes its ur wiper motos its showing signs that its going. Sooner or later it wont work at all....Plus those cars are known for having water pummp issues and wiper motor issues.
    Windshield wiper issue?
its the wiper motor. that happen to a lot of car owner. check to your mechanic for some repair.
that sounds more like the switch then the motor. if it was the motor then they would,nt work at all. it also could be the relay too.

Only one wiper is moving over the screen, when try to use both of them both get stuck and dont move an inch ?

What might be the problem :

only one wiper is moving over the screen (when put out one of the wind screen the other one starts to move ), when try to use both of them both get stuck and dont move an inch ?

i have changed both windshield wiper blades and motor and installed a new battery.
Only one wiper is moving over the screen, when try to use both of them both get stuck and dont move an inch ?
Look at the linkage. Something's worn/stuck.
Only one wiper is moving over the screen, when try to use both of them both get stuck and dont move an inch ?
from the wiper motor to the passenger side wiper there is a bar that contols the passenger wiper. that ber has probably fallen off and is binding in the space it sits in. you can get to it by looking in the space just in front of the windshield and behind the hood. There should be a plastic or metal cover(depeding on the year make and model) that can be removed to access it

    good luck

Also are they easy too change out and does anyone know of a website where parts are cheap?
Where is the windshield wiper motor located on a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix?
It's located under that vent, between the windshield and the hood.

There should be a few screws too release it and lift it up, to access

    your wiper motor.

This operation can be tricky and time consuming, take your time,

you can follow the instructions in the new part box.

I always suggest OEM parts, little more to buy but worth it, from the

    fitment point of view.

    good luck
Where is the windshield wiper motor located on a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix?
Under the cowl grille. Not easy for a beginner. You'll probably bend the transom the first time, and then you'll be screwed for sure.

What size windshield wiper do I need for a 2007 Toyota Tundra?
Get a tape measure and see. They measure in inches.

On some vehicles, the left and right wiper blade are different sizes, so measure them both.
What size windshield wiper do I need for a 2007 Toyota Tundra?
Going to Walmart or any other auto parts store will have a book next to the windshield wipers and you just find your truck in there and it will list what size each one is.
26%26quot; on drivers side and 22%26quot; on the passenger side.
don't need to know..go to autoparts store tell them car and year,,they will install them free. [advance auto,,,auto zone,,,o'reillys]

How do i change the windshield wipers on my 1994 mustang?!?

most wipers are pretty simple to change. most of them you push the lock down on your wiper arm, and pull it off. go to any auto parts supplier and buy your wipers and most of them will show you how they unlatch.
How do i change the windshield wipers on my 1994 mustang?!?
They snap in pretty EZ. Directions with drawings are in the package with new ones.
How do i change the windshield wipers on my 1994 mustang?!?
pop in pop out....after you move tab or lock release....

How do you change your windshield wipers? Do you need to look for a specific type?

Most wiper arms from the pivot point upward today have a U shaped 180 degree hook on the end. It's always easier if you sit behind the wheel with your wipers operating in the slow position. Time the wiper blades at or near the longest end upward of their stroke. Quickly turn off the ignition system. Your goal is to park the blades as close to the fully swept position as you can. It's the easiest position to remove the blade and blade frame. Lift the blade fully off the windshield. If you look closely, there is a button beneath the steel flat blade arm at the very end This button is at the very center of the blade but underneath the steel arm. The darn slider button is small but it must be slid toward the bottom of the windshield less than 1/8 of an inch. At the same time with the button is pushed down pull the wiper blade toward the piviot point of the wiper arm. The entire blade and frame slides downward and off.

Do the reverse when installing the new blades. Make sure the bayonet in the center of the new blade is pointing toward you then slide it on the steel wiper arm with the center plastic bayonet facing the base of the windshield. The blade and frame slides straight on the U shaped hook, no button to press untill it's time to change them again.

Big hint: Any automotive parts store will do it for you. Especially if the customer is a lady. Do I ever get help He*l no. I'm too old and surely not good lookin.
How do you change your windshield wipers? Do you need to look for a specific type?
your windshield wipers snap on and off......eiother go to walmart and have them change them for you or look at your owners manual for specifics
How do you change your windshield wipers? Do you need to look for a specific type?
sometimes if you buy them at like autozone half the time they will put them on for you..
Yes, every make %26amp; model of car has its own size. Ask the guy behind the counter at the auto parts store to look it up on the computer (or look it up yourself in those books that hang from the shelves).

Most autoparts stores will put them on for you at no extra charge, and you can watch them do it. They usually just snap on or off.

Need help! 2002 mercury cougar tool light, buttons, back windshield wiper and spark plugs?

My hubby got a cougar a couple of years ago. for as long as I can remember there has been a yellow tool looking light showing on the ceiling. If ya have a cougar you would know what I'm talking about. What does the light mean? We've gotten the car tuned up but it hasn't gone away. Also we don't know how to turn on the back windshield wiper or change the spark plugs. There are also theses buttons that remains useless on the dash. I heard you can program them but how? This car didn't come with a users manual so I'm having to ask on here.
Need help! 2002 mercury cougar tool light, buttons, back windshield wiper and spark plugs?
That is a service reminder light. It comes on at preset intervals to remind you that service is needed, like oil changes. It has to be reset after service is performed. How to reset the light, and your other questions are answered in the Owners Guide and the Maintenance Guide. You can download a free copy off one of the Ford sites like www.genuineservice.com.

2004 saturn Ion windshield wiper arm stabilizer bar?

Husband changed windshield blades on 2004 saturn Ion. The stabilizer arm broke where the aluminium crimps around the plastic on the pivoter (where the arm pivots) Arm now flops all over the place when turned on. First question can I get a windshield wiper arm puller for this car and if so where. and second question any hints or tips to fix this problem without spending $200 { what saturn has quoted us to buy new parts(transmission linkage) problem} would be greatly appreciated.
2004 saturn Ion windshield wiper arm stabilizer bar?
if you look at the petersons manual for that car-should just have to push in the tab at the stub and should come right off-did one yeasterday-go to your local auto salvage yard to find one...should be plenty of em out there
2004 saturn Ion windshield wiper arm stabilizer bar?
The %26quot;Best Answer%26quot; is incorrect. The Ion wiper arm fits onto a tapered shaft and is held on with a nut. If you can't gently wiggle the wiper arm off the post, you need to use a puller to prevent damage. I used a small puller that was designed for removing battery cables from the battery posts.

no way around not replacing the trans, you can do it yourself, you can use a battery cable puller to remove the arms or just remove the nuts then wiggle the arm and it should come loose.

A bottle of Windshield Wiper Fluid was left in my car's back seat and burst from the heat. How do I clean it??

I bought a bottle of windshield wiper fluid when I got my car to get the battery changed. However, I was stupid enough to forget about the fluid in my back seat and the whole bottle burst the next day because the car was out in the sun the entire day. all the fluid got on my floor mats and the rug on the back seat. Everything dried and the entire car smells like alcohol every time I get in. Also, the back rug/mat turned blue. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get the blue off from the mat and the floor? This is very embarrassing and I feel very stupid for forgetting the bottle in the back seat.

    Thanks!
A bottle of Windshield Wiper Fluid was left in my car's back seat and burst from the heat. How do I clean it??
you can take and shampoo all of this and that should get the majority of it out,it might be permanently stained though on somethings ,usually when alcohol sets a stain in like that, its sort of hard to get out,id try a real good shampoo first though, and hopefully all of it will come out, don't feel bad though i had a can of starting fluid blow up in one of my vehicles,it sounded like the car blew up when it went off and it was sitting in plain site too,it only got up to 98 degrees out side that day ,but way hotter in the car, good luck with it hope this helps.
A bottle of Windshield Wiper Fluid was left in my car's back seat and burst from the heat. How do I clean it??
You don't give enough information but here is a rule of thumb. Take the affected mats out, let them air dry, do the same with the car, open the doors and let it air out for a while. At least a day, try using a solution of a bit of Dawn Dishwashing detergent and some water, wash the area thouroughly and allow to dry. Once that is done spray some fabreeze on all the upholstery. It should make everything look like new.
Milo You should have kept it all in the trunk ,would you keep gasoline in the rear seating area? Dude like we all say got a clue? Why do vehicles all have trunks in them? The bottom line is you should keep all fluids in the garage and not in the car and the only things to keep in a trunk is the spare tire a set of jumper cables and emergency items like flares in case of any breakdowns. My oh my people just never learn from any of us do they ? Well my man you'll learn someday from all of this won't you?.....

How often should I change my windshield wipers on my car? How much do they cost?

How can I do this myself?
How often should I change my windshield wipers on my car? How much do they cost?
I usually change my wiper blades near the start of winter and begining of spring. Wipers go through a lot in summer constantly exposed to heat and so on and are prone to cracking and wear. The same goes for winter, constantly exposed to the harsh elements.

Streaking, smearing or the blade no longer maintaining adequate pressure or contact with the windshield are all surefire signs that wiper blade replacement is due.

Many windshield wiper kits sold today come with adapters to fit most domestic and import vehicles and instructions for installation are either printed on the packaging or on a leaflet inside. Installation is relatively simple usually taking no longer than fifteen minutes. A small bladed screwdriver may be required for some models, most just snap into place.

Not all wiper blades are created equal, some wiper blades, particularly on the drivers side are longer in length to that of the passenger side. For example the drivers side may be 22%26quot; long while the passenger side may only be 19%26quot;. Most parts stores can assist you in finding the correct size for your vehicle.

How much do you want to pay? You can pay up to $50 CDN for a set of premium blades, or a little less $15 to $25 for a set of budget blades. If my old wiper blades are in fair condition, I hang onto them until spring, in the event I need one in a pinch. Nows the time to stock up on winter windshield washer fluid as well!

You can get a pair at your local auto parts store or pick a pair at your local wal-mart for around $8. They last about a year
Whenever the rubber starts cracking or they don't clear wht windshield. Autozone has them for about $7 an up. If they aren't too busy, they will install them for free.
Change'em when they're showing wear or stop wiping well. Yes, you can change them yourself. About $8 a pair %26amp; instructions are included.
They're usually about $10 for each one. They're very easy to change, and the should come with instructions on how to do so.
To make them last Every time you clean your window Wipe the blades with a wet sponge
replace them as needed. Worn cracked or smudges. Easy to install about $15 for a pair. Make sure to get the right size

i used the wiper blade refill which i think i got from walmart or autozone. try both. works well, not as expensive as the dealershit. cost less than $5 for both the front.
There is no way the wiper blades are a dealership item only. That would be against the law. If some dip-sh-t at autozone can't operate the computer, don't give up. Most replacement wiper blades have universal attachments to accommodate any car.

    Why did windshield wipers change?

When I was a little kid I remember windshield wipers pointed towards the center of the windshield and went up and down opposite each other in a staggered fashion. Then at some point they started pointing in the same direction and moving up and down at the same pattern and rate. I've always wondered why this changed.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? If so, don't you think the old way got the windshield cleaner?

    Thanks!
    Why did windshield wipers change?
Many old cars of the '50's and '60's had opposed wipers. Many used cable systems ( complicated ), newer cars used opposable but with hard linkages, but cumbersome, too. I would bet that one reason is that the old wiper motors used to be mounted dead center in the engine compartment, when they moved them off to the side, they could then mount one wiper in the center, so they could both move in the same direction. Probably less linkage complications and no cable crossovers with the wipers this way. Most wiper motors are now on the driver's side firewall. I'd say the main reason was to uncomplicate the linkage / cable pulley systems.
    Why did windshield wipers change?
You had a European car when you were a little kid. I've seen that particular kind of w/s wiper.

Not all carmakers do things the same. Even today there's a variety of w/s wiper types.

If it's any consolation, I like antiques that work like they should too.
Yes I agree that the windshield got cleaner the old way. However, the auto makers found out that it takes less components to make a windshield wiper assembly with the wipers going the same direction. So the bottom line was cost.

Rain X is a superb product and I had new wipers put on the last time my vehicle was in for an oil and lube job. (like the end of February)
After an ice storm wrecked them.

    BQ= no
    I must change my blades.

No rainX. Because it works too good. I mean it makes the window more prone to stone chips. It is a good product though.
Thanks for the information about RainX. I got my cars' oil change about a month ago. They check for everything, including windsheild wipers. My car is a 2009,and I have to check the wipers more often because the heat of the summer down where I live , makes the wiper blades break faster.
Nah ... I don't need it because I have the twins Bobby %26amp; Billy Mercer, they are Black Mamba's ..... They do an excellent job ..... and besides I NEVER get a Parking Ticket!

Can you buy any windshield wipers for your car?

I drive a honda car and I want to change my windshield wipers. Do i have to go to a honda dealership to change it there? or go to any car store and buy it from there?
Can you buy any windshield wipers for your car?
you can go to any car store and buy them there just be careful fitting them . You can cut them to the right length.
Can you buy any windshield wipers for your car?
Go to Walmart. There is a wiper book next to the wipers and it will tell you which ones are for your car.
Ask for help at a parts store. You dont have to go to dealer
autozone or any car parts store will be able to sell you new blades.
Go to your local auto supply store and most of them will change them for you.
You can go to any car store but there is a book that will tell you which wiper will fit your year and model (they might be out temporarily, but they usually carry 2 or 3 brands, its the only way I go)
you can go anywhere you want to buy new wiper blades. You can buy inserts or whole new blade assembly. I will recommend buying the triple blade silicone blades they are gauranteed for the life of your vehicle. They won't break down like normal rubber blades.
Try NAPA or any store that sell auto parts. Wal Mart has an auto department. Also K mart. Flex blades are the best. Use the chart to determine the type for your auto.
there are 2 types... look at the old ones on your car... one of them has 1 rubber track holding it into the wiper... and the other one has 2... just buy whichever one fits.. slide it in, and cut off the excess
    its not clear

I tried to go through a carwash today

I think maybe i started a war or something.

I was not allowed to go through the carwash since my window refused to shut
First, check your owner's manual. It should say in there what size of wipers you need. I get mine from Wal-Mart for under $3. As long as you get the right size, it's not going to make a difference where you get them. I wouldn't recommend going back to the dealer just for that, though. They'll charge you an arm, leg, and possibly your first-born child.
They have them at any auto parts store. I got mine changed a couple months ago. You go in and they have a catologue and you look up your car and find out what kind of length, thickness etc. your wipers are...or you can check on your wipers... and buy just the rubber wiper blades or you can replace the whole wiper blade holder thing. depends what you need. Go to pep boys, or other auto parts stores.
no, you can go to any place that sells auto parts. Such as kragen, auto zone, monument car parts etc..
Spend a little more, not the most expensive but don't buy the cheapest either. I bought the cheap ones about six months ago, they were never good, which is bad safety wise. It is just too important not to spend the extra money. Advance Auto parts has some that are about generally about 10 a piece that are great.
You can buy any brand of new wiper blades for your car you just have to make sure you buy the right size - 15, 16, 17, etc. Most stores have a wiper blade book so you can purchase the right size. Use this book and follow the directions on the package to install and you'll be set up in no time.
You don't have to go to the dealer to purchase wiper blades.

But you do need to get the correct blades for your car.

I would suggest going to Pep Boys, AutoZone or any other auto parts store local to you and they can figure out exactly which blades your car needs and they will probably even install them for you if you ask.
The first time I went to Murray's so they could tell me what size the wipers were on my truck. Now I go to walmart or back to Murray's and know what size I need so if you know your size you can go to any store that sell windshield wipers or car parts and you should find what you are looking for.

    Good Luck
get them anywhere dont go to a dealer...way overpriced
Auto zone will help you, they will look it up for you I have 2 vehicles and both times they where kind enough to come out and put them on for me
